Who this covers
This policy explains how AI Search Pro (“we”) handles data in the AI Search Pro Shopify app. It covers two groups: merchants who install the app, and shoppers who use the search box on a merchant’s storefront.
What we collect from merchants
- Your store domain (for example
your-store.myshopify.com) and the access tokens Shopify issues when you install the app. These identify your store and let the app read your catalogue. - Your app settings — the dropdown layout, colours and wording you choose, and whether AI search is switched on.
- Your catalogue vocabulary — the product types, vendors, tags and variant option names and values that already exist on your products. This is business data, not personal data, and it is what lets the app interpret shopper language without building a search index.
- Your subscription status, read back from Shopify so the app knows which plan you are on. We never see or store payment details; billing is handled entirely by Shopify.
What we collect from shoppers
One thing: the words typed into the search box, stored alongside how many results were returned and how long the search took.
Nothing is stored that could identify who typed it. Specifically, the app does not record customer IDs, names, email addresses, IP addresses, browser fingerprints, cookies, cart tokens, session identifiers, or any link to an order. Search records cannot be attributed to an individual, combined into a profile, or used to recognise a returning visitor.
A shopper’s IP address is briefly used in memory for rate limiting, to stop automated traffic exhausting a merchant’s allowance. It is never written to disk, never logged, and discarded within minutes.
Where search queries go
To interpret a query like “something warm for under 50”, the text is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, along with your store’s list of product types, vendors, tags and option values. No shopper identity accompanies it, because the app does not have one.

Not every search is sent. Short queries and repeated queries are answered from Shopify’s own search or from our cache without ever reaching the AI provider.
Who else processes data for us
- Anthropic PBC — AI query interpretation, as described above.
- Render Services, Inc. — application hosting and the managed PostgreSQL database where merchant settings and anonymous search records are stored.
- Shopify Inc. — the platform itself. Product data is read live from Shopify’s APIs and is not copied into our systems.
How long we keep things
- Cached search results — 24 hours, then automatically discarded.
- Anonymous search records — 90 days, then automatically deleted. Merchant analytics show the last 30 days.
- Merchant settings and tokens — for as long as the app is installed. Access tokens and cached data are deleted immediately on uninstall, and everything else is erased when Shopify sends the
shop/redactrequest 48 hours later.
Your rights
AI Search Pro implements Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks. When a shopper asks a merchant for their data or asks to be erased, Shopify notifies us and we respond — in our case confirming that no personal data about that individual exists in our systems, because none is ever collected. These requests are logged so the response can be evidenced.

Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit over TLS. Storefront requests are verified using Shopify’s App Proxy signature, so the app only answers requests that genuinely originate from a merchant’s storefront. Access tokens are stored server-side and are never sent to a browser.
Children
The app is a business tool for Shopify merchants and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age, beyond what is described above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — particularly if we ever begin collecting something we do not collect today — we will update the date at the top and notify installed merchants by email before the change takes effect.
